The Ties That Bind by Marie Shirley Jones

Marie Shirley Jones, resident of Red Lodge and retired art teacher from our Red Lodge schools, will be presenting “The Ties That Bind,” which includes twenty new fiber wall hangings through the month ,of September on the first floor of the Roosevelt Center.

Marie manipulates fabric by using various transfer techniques. All the new exhibited nature inspired pieces were created by transferring ink from old silk fabric onto her new fabric wall hanging. She primarily uses old men’s neckties by rolling them up with the new fabric, tying the fabric together and then and boiling. She explains that this process is highly unpredictable. Her process also utilizes sections of the original silk fabric as applique as well as block printing from her original blocks, sewing and embroidery work. Marie believes not knowing exactly how a process will turn out is half the fun and she intends to keep doing it until she runs out of silk neckties.

 

​A Glimpse of Montana Watercolor Paintings by Mike Koski on 2nd Floor

September 1 – October 26, 2026

“A Glimpse of Montana” is an immersive visual journey through the evocative watercolor artistry of Mike Koski. This exhibition brings together breathtaking local landscapes, vibrant cultural cityscapes, and expressive portraits. Through every brushstroke, Mike seeks to preserve those fleeting, precious moments--glimpses of everyday life--that capture our attention and, sometimes, our hearts. In his process, Mike surrenders control to the medium itself, allowing the natural, fluid properties of watercolor to shape the final piece. The result is a stunning balance where meticulous realism meets the living, breathing mood of the subject. Mike will be available onsite October 10, 2 - 6 pm during Art Walk.
